DAVID Beckham eyes Cristiano Ronaldo for his Major League Soccer team, Barcelona snubs Mesut Ozil, and Manchester City consider suing Arsenal over the failed Alexis Sanchez transfer.
It’s all in Rumour Mill!
BECKHAM’S STUNNING RONALDO MOVE
David Beckham is preparing to make a sensational attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo for his new Miami-based Major League Soccer club, according toThe Mirror.
The Manchester United and England legend will to launch his MLS team this month, and Beckham reportedly believes he can attract big-name stars to Florida, including Real Madrid’s Ballon d’Or winner.
Beckham’s club is set to enter the MLS in three years when Ronaldo will be 35-years-old, and the report suggests that’s when Portuguese could be open to one last career move.
While MLS commissioner Don Garber said there’s been a growing reluctance to sign ageing stars from European clubs, exceptions can be made for the right player.
Ronaldo certainly falls into that category.
Garber told The Mirror: “I hope we don’t move too far away from recognising that having global icons play in our league can deliver all sorts of value and technology. Not just in terms of ticket sales and commercial benefit, but it inspires young people here.”
“They might be influenced by playing the EA Sports games or watching the Premier League or Bundesliga and yet might not have a local MLS team.
“If you can bring in an icon like David Beckham in his day or what [New York City’s Spain international striker] David Villa is doing today, if you can have those players who are followed on a truly global basis.
“I’ll never mention names because I get infuriated with coaches mentioning players in our league. But there are clearly players around the world who resonate.”
OZIL SNUBBED BY BARCELONA
In 2010, Mesut Ozil starred for Germany at the World Cup and earned a transfer to Real Madrid.
Seven years later, the Arsenal playmaker is still featuring for the national team, but he’s not having the same influence on the field.
At the Emirates, that’s become apparent to Arsenal fans, with supporters and pundits panning his perceived lack of effort, motivation and impact while in action for the Gunners.
Barca had already signed Ousmane Dembele to help fill the void left by Neymar, but wanted at least one more signing.
But it turns the La Liga club didn’t believe Ozil would solve their issues, according to football expert Guillem Balague.
He tweeted: “I’m convinced that if FCB had put on table, with enough time, €60m for Ozil they would have got him. But they say he’s not what they need.”
Instead, Barca went all out in a bid to sign former Real star Angel Di Maria from PSG, but they failed to meet the Ligue 1 club’s valuation in the “crazy” market.
Now it seems the Catalan giant will go forward with just ex-Borussia Dortmund starlet replacement.
Riyad Mahrez was also linked with a transfer to Barca, and was allowed to miss Algeria’s flight to Zambia for an international match to try and complete a move on Deadline Day.
However, no transfer eventuated and now the winger is expected to return and play for Leicester, according to Sky.
No bids have been made for Mahrez since Roma’s £32m offer was rejected over three weeks ago, but the Mail reported he still wants to leave the Foxes in January.
CITY CONSIDER LEGAL ACTION OVER SANCHEZ
Chilean newspaper El Murcuriois claiming Manchester City are considering legal action after Arsenal blocked their deal for Alexis Sanchez after it was signed.
The Gunners and the Ligue 1 club had agreed a deal for the Frenchman, but Lemar turned down the opportunity to move to the Emirates and Arsenal decided to keep their Chilean.
Arsene Wenger told beIN: “Lemar chose to stay at Monaco. You have to respect what happens on the negotiation side.”
“I know we live in an era of transparency but at some stage, to respect everybody, you have to not talk too much about that.”
Wenger insists Sanchez will give “100%” to the team, but Express is reporting that the attacker doesn’t want to play for Arsenal again after the fluffed move.
As for Lemar, who struck a superb hat trick for France on Deadline Day, French newspaper L’Equipe reported that the winger has “eyes only for Liverpool” and could join the club as soon as January.
But Paul Pogba also joked on Instagram that he would try and manufacture a Manchester United transfer for Lemar.
He posted a photo with his countryman with the caption: “Happy with yesterday’s result, working for the next goal. Proud of being blue.”
Pogba included the hashtag #AgentP, which was popularised with a video confirming Romelu Lukaku’s switch to the Red Devils.
– After Newcastle’s underwhelming transfer window signings, coach Rafa Benitez has lost faith in owner Mike Ashley’s leadership and doesn’t want to coach the Magpies long-term, according to the Guardian.
Benitez is reportedly open to moving to other Premier League clubs, and could be tempted to take over at West Ham is Slaven Bilic leaves.
– According to The Sun, Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal with Ajax to sign young starlet Kasper Dolberg in January.
