ANTONIO Conte could be the next manager to make a quick Stamford Bridge exit, while Liverpool and Spurs are set to fight over a Championship young gun.
That and more in another edition of Rumour Mill!
ALLEGRI ‘AGREES’ TO REPLACE CONTE
It appears Antonio Conte could become the latest casualty of Chelsea’s managerial revolving door, as reports emerged from the Daily Mail, that Massimiliano Allegri has been lined up to replace the Italian at the end of the season.
Allegri is reportedly head of the Blues’ shortlist to replace Conte and the report suggests that the Juventus boss has ‘agreed’ to take over from his compatriot.
However, Juve allegedly have zero intention of letting Allegri leave, with the 50-year-old’s contract set to run until 2020.
Juve have won league titles in each of Allegri’s first three seasons with the Bianconeri and currently sit second in the Serie A, one point behind Napoli. Contrastingly, Conte’s Chelsea have struggled to recapture their title winning form from last season, and sit 16 points off the pace set by rampant Manchester City in third place.
Conte has often cut a displeased figure at Stamford Bridge this season – prompting talk of an exit for the Italian.
REDS AND SPURS COMPETE FOR STARLET
Liverpool and Tottenham are preparing themselves for a scrap over the signing of Norwich’s James Maddison, reports The Mirror.
Maddison has been in excellent touch for the Canaries this season, registering six goals and five assists in the Championship.
Norwich are on the verge of selling Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield, and won’t be keen to part with another starlet this month.
However that won’t stop the Reds and Spurs sniffing around the former Coventry man, as he continues to impress at Carrow Road.
Wolves are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old midfielder.
IGHALO INTERESTED IN PL RETURN
Former Watford striker Odion Ighalo is interested in returning to the Premier League after spending just a season in China with Changchun Yatai.
Sky sources report that a pair of unidentified English top flight sides are interested in the forward, who has a £20m (AU$34m) release clause in his contract.
Ighalo scored 16 goals in 55 appearances at Vicarage Road and is believed to be open to an English return.
DONE DEAL: MATILDA FOORD MAKES USA MOVE
Matildas forward Caitlin Foord has joined Portland Thorns FC, the club has confirmed.
Thorns parted with midfielder Allie Long in exchange for Foord and a 2020 conditional second-round draft pick in a deal with Seattle Reign FC.
The 23-year-old began her career in the W-League with Sydney FC and Perth Glory before spending a season in Japan.
“Caitlin is one of the most explosive and exciting players in the world,” said Thorns FC head coach Mark Parsons. “She has the ability to create and finish in various ways. Her enthusiasm and tireless work rate on both sides of the ball will bring a new dimension to our team.”
Foord has already earned 57 caps for the Matildas, netting 10 goals and playing in two Women’s World Cup campaigns as well as the 2016 Rio Olympics in the process. She was named young player of the tournament at the 2011 World Cup in Germany.
